Sow peonies

Now it's your turn to sow happiness
& sow peonies at home!
It's wonderful to be able to pick your own peonies and create bouquets of fresh flowers. Not to mention the joy of giving! In addition, peonies will make your landscaping more beautiful and distinguished. To take good care of them and to ensure that they are planted correctly, here are some tips.
First, you should know that the peony has the shape of a root and not a bulb. It is generally planted in the fall. You must plant your peony before the first period of ground frost. The months of September and October are therefore ideal for planting.
Choose a sunny location and well-drained soil. Peonies don't like having their feet in water, but they love snow which acts as a real protector. So be sure to choose a location where there will be enough snow in winter. Some peonies can live up to 80 years and it is best not to move them often. Be sure to choose a prime location for them!
If you plant several peonies, make sure that the plants have a distance of three feet between them to allow them to take root, grow and flourish.
- Dig a hole 2 to 3 times larger than the root of the peony and deep enough so that the eyes (pink buds) of the peony point upward and are covered with about 2 inches (5 cm) of soil maximum. If the eyes are too deep, the peony will have difficulty growing. If the eyes are too high, there is a risk of freezing or breakage.
- The planting height therefore varies depending on the root you have to plant.
- Add potting soil, compost, well-rotted manure or bone meal to your soil. Do not add fresh manure.
Cover your root with soil. Pack the soil well to prevent your root from lifting and moving over winter. By following these instructions, you will have your first peony flowers next summer.
