Sowing peonies from seeds

Farmer's Notes: Having tried both methods many times, I much prefer the outdoor method which really requires less work and care. On the other hand, the advantage of the indoor method is to concretely see the germination of the seeds and to properly place the baby peony in the garden without losing it afterwards.
Outdoor method:
Sow the seeds directly in the ground in the fall in an area of the garden with loosened and well-weeded soil, about 5 cm apart and 2.5 cm deep, preferably in full sun. Water once, then keep the soil moist at all times. It is helpful to put mulch on the ground. During spring and summer, keep the soil evenly moist. It can take up to two years to see germination. Peonies from seed: it's believing that tomorrow will be beautiful and flowery!
Method inside:
Sow the peony seeds in a pot filled with moist potting soil, at a depth of approximately 2.5 cm and at a spacing of approximately 5 cm. Then insert the pot into a transparent plastic bag and seal it. Place the container in a very warm place (27°C or even a little warmer), ideally under a grow light. Germination can start at room temperature too, but will be slower. Keep the jar warm and humid for about 3 months (e.g. October, November, December), then place it in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 months (January, February, March, April). When spring arrives, remove the pot from the refrigerator and place the pot in a well-lit area (but not yet in direct sunlight) at room temperature. When you see the first leaves appear, remove the plastic bag and place the pot in the sun. Then transplant your baby peony into the garden.

Peony seeds from our fields – in the form of a surprise bag! It reminds me of the joy I had as a child of choosing surprise bags at Ardene or at the local convenience store. Let’s say they’re surprise bags for grown-ups now 😉
Each sachet contains 10 seeds.
